back in the beginning of june
after weeks of rain
jackson lake dam became quite full.
so full, in fact that it was just feet away from the top.
in order to get it under control,
they decided to open up all the spillways.
usually there are only a couple spillways open and
the water just runs out.
this time, they opened them all.
the road runs right across the top of the dam.
this is looking from that road towards the lake
these guys were hanging out on the edge of the turbulence,
bobbing around and catching fish
they are american white pelicans.
you can see them flying up and down the snake river or
circling high overhead.
they swin and dive for fish, but do not dive from the air.
