so we meet again, mr moose!!

i came upon this guy just as he was finishing his afternoon water stop.

i am pretty sure this is the same guy
that i posted about a couple of days ago.

only this time, i had the river between us for safety.

i sat on the edge of the river across from him
for about 20 minutes all by myself.

of course, as soon as i sat down,
he walked right into the bushes.

i think he knew i was waiting for him
because just as i was getting up to leave.

he peeked out at me.

silly moose!!

how about some ice cream with that brownie?

verba, the lady that lives across from us, has the sweetest little dog.

his name is brownie.

he is always friendly and happy.

when she takes him for his walks, he carries a toy with him the entire time.

saturday . . saturday

saturday night's alright.

saturday morning and afternoon ain't too bad either.

we went wandering around today.....

*morning storm clouds against the mountains

*first snow/hail of the season on the sidewalks of jackson

*waiting in the truck outside the rv supply store in town

*waiting in the truck outside the dairy queen on the edge of town

*stopping to watch the ducks in the ponds of the national elk refuge

*ride to two ocean lake inside the park

*lupine meadows at the base of the mountains

*afternoon storm clouds

*coyote off gros ventre road

*rainbow outside our door in the campground after yet again, one more storm of the day

*listening to a MAJOR thunder and lightening storm hanging around this evening

*wondering if the crazy hail storm we just had did any damage to the truck and trailer

wonder what sunday will bring.

you never know what is lurking in the shadows

imagine my surprise
when i found out
i had walked right by this guy
within 10 feet
and never even knew it
until i was up the path
at the general store
about 50 feet away.

he had been in the water
in front of menor's ferry dock
(which is part of the general store i have spoke of in a prior post)
and the ferry could not dock
so the ranger running the ferry
persuaded him to move by slowly moving the ferry up to the dock.

well, mr moose was not happy at all
and started stomping and snorting
but eventually, wandered over to the sand and laid down.

that is where i came wandering along
not realizing he was there.

we had to give him lots of room
because of his mood.
it also doesn't help that it's rutting season for the moose
and he was a bit frustrated, if you know what i mean.

he was there for at least 2 hours
until i went home.
it did not look like he was in any hurry to get moving.

it's a tough job

but somebody's got to do it.

this afternoon, while other people were taking their break around the water cooler
talking with their coworkers about what they had planned for the weekend,

i had the rough task of delivering an order up to signal mountain resort which sits right on jackson lake.

the drive up was just awful   :-)

i did not have to fight traffic.

i did not have to listen to annoying conversations from adjoining cubicles.

i did not have to look at a pile of work waiting for me to finish it.

i did however, have the road to myself for almost the whole 60 minute ride up & back.

i did listen to the wind with the window down.

i did look at the storm clouds stacking up against the mountains.

and my afternoon break was standing around in a field,
thinking to myself about what an awesome scene i was looking at.....

this pasture sits on the side of the highway and
occasionally, in the off season it will have buffalo or elk hanging around.
it actually belongs to one of the local ranches
and usually has their trail horses grazing in it.

this afternoon when i was on my way back to the office,
i came upon this string of horses walking slowly thru the pasture.
when they made it to the water, they stopped and drank their fill,
then turned around and walked all the way back to the other side.

they obviously are trail horses and probably head out together.
they kept a straight line and when one horse stopped, the ones behind it would stop also.

this was my friday afternoon water cooler conversation.

only no words were spoken.

and instead of heading back to my desk and
looking out a window only to see traffic, people, other buildings and dirty smoggy air...

i turned to head back to my car,

and was blessed to see everything but all of that mess...

double, double, toil and trouble

fire burn and

caldron bubble.

saturday we decided to take a drive up to yellowstone.
we took the grand tour as it is called, which means you take the whole loop
around the park.

it really should be done in more than one day like we did,
but it is doable.

this is the first stop...

the west thumb geyser basin.

this group of geysers sit on the edge of yellowstone lake.

like everywhere throughout the park, you are on a boardwalk that
travels over and around the geysers.

each geyser is beautiful in it's own weird way

some are deep clear blue

some are muddy

some just bubble

some are steamy

one is an awesome deep green

which is rightly named ..

there are also small streams that run out of the geysers to the lake

this one is a color i can't even describe.

there is a geyser in the lake

some people are brave enough to canoe along the shore

this is looking away from the geysers, along the edge of the lake

some of the geysers have dried up

and are now home to flowers

that was the first stop on the tour

next stop

yellowstone falls
