sunday april 24, 2011

evanston, wyoming to jackson, wyoming

we hit the road early.

hwy 89 north from evanston to jackson

is a very quiet two lane road

consisting of lots of cattle ranches.

little by little

we saw more and more snow.

last year when we saw this sign
we got a bit nervous.
this year, we didn't blink an eye.

the snow along this stretch of road

had not been trampled all up by abunch of humans.

but just lightly walked through by an animal or two.

the snake river let us know we were almost there

and the welcoming committee on the side of the road

confirmed we had made it

.

saturday april 23, 2011

cedar city, utah to evanston, wyoming

travel was pretty smooth

the first purple flowers of spring are all over the fields

then we hit the construction on interstate 15  in salt lake.

it was nothing but bounce and bump for miles.

we had already decided to stop at the camping world

which was a very good thing.

when john got out of the truck and walked around the trailer,

all i heard was "ooohhhh mannnn  we lost the door!!!

i did not even want to get out and look.

well, if we had to have bad luck

i'm glad that we had it exactly where we did.

all that bouncing on the freeway,

bounced the small door to our water heater right off the trailer.

camping world had 1 left for $88.00.    :-(

the associate said that we were the 3rd trailer to come in and buy one.

it was easy enough to fix.

then we had our last fast food meal for awhile

and enjoyed every last bite of it.

travelling east over hwy 80, past park city, utah

we got a preview of weather to come.

rolled into wyoming

and stopped for the night in evanston, wyoming.

the hotel had the weirdest little square pillows.

but we were way too tired to even care.

friday april 22, 2011

claremont, california to cedar city, utah

on the road by 7:30am

traveled to stateline, nevada

to say goodbye to my mom.

had lunch and a good visit.

back on the road through las vegas in what we hoped was to be our last traffic jam for awhile.

into arizona

and through the virgin river canyon

and on to cedar city for the night.

goodbye seems to be the hardest word

the last few days

before we left to go back up to wyoming

were spent seeing family and friends

and saying goodbye again.

as much as we tried to say we were prepared to do it,

we really weren't.

we thought we put on brave faces,

but after each goodbye,

our faces had more than one tear rolling down them.

we will miss out

watching our grandbaby girls grow

seeing stacey get married

attending the wedding celebration of kim (our colorado sister) and jeff

mother's day

father's day

family birthdays

and just everyday events that will go on while we are gone.

we hope with all our hearts

that everyone stays safe and healthy while we are gone

and that we will be saying that wonderufl word "hello" very soon.

hanging with our homies from the hood

a few weeks ago

we were able to get back to the old charwood court neighborhood

and hook back up with all our old friends.

we miss each and every one of them

and did not realize how much

until we were standing in the middle of the street together

remembering many years of great memories.

a short visit with a little person

friday, april 8, 2011

after venice

we drove south on pacific coast highway for awhile hoping to enjoy the ocean view.

i didn't realize that it veers away from the water for such a long way.

we eventually ended up starving in san pedro.

i remembered about ports 'o call from being there many years ago.

it was nothing like i remembered.

mostly due to the economy forcing many of it's shops to close.

we did find a restaurant that looked promising.

it wasn't a picture postcard setting overlooking the pacific ocean

but it was interesting anyway.

we had a nice dinner while we watched the sunset over the long beach shipyards.
