friday evening

we went on a covered wagon cookout

with our friends in the campground.

we traveled by horse drawn

covered wagon about 2 miles

beside a creek

in a canyon

into the bridger-teton national forest.

we had a scare from some wild indians

but the trail boss kept them away from us.

when we arrived at the camp,

there was a dutch oven cowboy dinner

of bbq chicken, roast beef, beans, and corn

waiting for us.

dessert arrived at our table in a covered pot

with brownies inside.

once everyone had eaten

the tables were cleared and the cowboy band

started up and played a few songs.

the ride back to town was very quiet

as we watched the starts come out in the night sky.

the (not so) great smoky mountains

earlier in the week,

a wildfire started

on the back side of the gros ventre mountains.

it is burning slow

and away from us

so it's not bothering us

except for the smokey air

in the mornings

when the wind blows our way.

on golden pond

tucked away

down a deadend dirt road

west of town

is a small pond

owned by teton science school.

it has a small wire fence around it

with signs asking the public to

please look only and not trespass.

i could have stayed there all day

watching the residents of this pond.

it is said to be a real treat to see a trumpeter swan

so to see a whole herd?,  flock?,  tribe?,  gang?

is awesone.

they were trumpeting when we got out of the truck

and continued the whole time we were there.

it is a very peaceful and restful place to spend some time.

after dinner treat

we had our company picnie this evening.

it was a great chicken dinner

and a chance to meet everyone

from the different stores.

not only was it a good time

at the picnic

but we were treated

to a wonderful sunset on the way home.

my kind of holiday

today is national relaxation day.

i don't know how many of us

really got to relax all that much,

but this guy certainly did.

he was lounging next to the pathway

i take to get to menor's ferry

where i help out a couple times a week.

i would have walked right by him

if someone hadn't told me he was there.


so take a minute,

sit back

and relax

and look at a couple of pictures.

now get back to work!!

i had to deliver to the yellowstone association's

store at old faithful.

i missed old faithful's eruprtion by just a few minutes

and was not able to wait the 90 minutes for the next spout.

i did get a glance at the back side of the lodge.

it was a beautiful day,

warm,

blue sky full of clouds.

it was also a busy tourist day

stores & delis full of people.

i left the old faithful area

heading back to work

and stopped in

grant village marina

on yellowstone lake

for a very overpriced &

under quality hamburger.
